The Winter Rotation for First Year is starting November 8th. Call the IEC office to get signed up. Classes will be held on Thursday nights and the instructor will be Mr. Brent Althouse. Entry requirement for the First Year class is passing the Math Diagnostic Exam. This exam is free and takes about 30 to 45 minutes to complete. If you do not pass the math exam you will be required to take the Math Refresher course. This course helps to refresh old math skills before trying to learn new electrical concepts in the First Year class.
The IEC Southern Colorado Chapter had their Open House on September 13th starting at 5:30pm. The guest speaker was Dean Wemmer, Head Electrical Inspector at the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department. We covered code and inspection questions, what is coming up for new code requirements and had a question-and-answer time with Dean.
We will also presented the SPARK Safety Award to Foster Electric Corporation, one of our contractor members. This is an award from IEC National for outstanding safety awareness, safety plans and commitment to keeping employees safe on the job.
Dinner was sponsored by CED/All-Phase. CED/All-Phase is an Industry Partner that is committed to IEC and to providing you with the best service, products and price in the Pikes Peak region.

The IEC Southern Colorado Chapter is hosting a Trade Show on October 11th. Calling it a just trade show, however, does not do it justice. We are also having a Chili Cook-Off Contest and a Student Car Show. Come and vote the best tasting chili and the best (and worst) looking student cars. There is also a category for the best looking contractor vehicle, best looking motorcycle, best sound system and, as I hinted earlier, the worst looking thing on four wheels. Come on and enjoy the chili and see the displays from our Industry Partners and vendors. The Trade Show Will start at 3:00 in the afternoon and go until 6:00, with awards presentation at 5:30.
