Electrical Industry Topics

As you may be aware, UL recently changed the 943 code for GFCI receptacles produced after July 28, 2006. The new 2006 [UL] code requires that each GFCI device incorporate a self-test feature that will automatically detect if the device can no longer provide ground fault protection. Once detected, the GFCI will shut power off to the outlet and any other device downstream. This code change is being driven by UL and not the NEC, so there should not be any issues with local electrical inspectors rejecting this product in favor of the 2006 UL 943 GFCI.
