Duane Nelson served on the IEC SCC Board and was employed at Blazer (now Rexel). Duane is remembered for his strong advocacy of formal training in the electrical idustry.He influenced many youngapprentices to stay in school, realize their potential and reap the rewards of a successful electrical career. In 2004 , the annual golf tournament was memorialized in his name.

What is better than a sunny July day with beautiful blue skies dotted with fluffy white clouds playing golf on luscious green fairways with the majestic Pikes Peak in the background?

This is the setting for the annual Duane Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament held at the Pine Creek Golf Club in Colorado Springs. Each year contractors, industry partners and friends come together to enjoy a day of competitive golf, networking opportunities and a chance to win valuable prizes to raise money for the apprenticeship training program.

Every golfer gets a chance to win a brand new pickup truck in the hole-in-one contest. Prizes are awarded for the longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin. Trophies are awarded to the four-man teams that place first, second and third.

The annual golf tournament is a win – win for everyone: from the golfers who play to the young men and women who benefit from the training program.
